Chapter Confession: My father is a murderer
March 2, 2019
“Chapter Confession: My father is a murderer” is a play where the main protagonist deals with her past trying hard to set her feet firmly at the present. The protagonist is a newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Nepal and throughout the play, she reflects on her past particularly her relationship with her father and her twin brother, elder by two hours.
The past sequence carries forward the story of an ex-police, a soon-to- be father having a strong belief of son preference. He was rooted in the prevailing belief : males are courageous. He dreams to make his son an IGP ( Indeed, the father always dreamt of being an IGP but couldn’t make it on account of his physical disability). His mother gives birth to dizygotic twins and dies in the process. The father is indifferent towards his daughter and puts his all focus on the son. To his utter dismay, while growing up his daughter starts showing the characteristics that he wants to see in his son. Also the daughter starts developing feelings for her brother. The play slowly unfolds the events with parallel stories, with the past and present of the protagonist in tandem, no blackouts at all, and narrative flashback. Fire and water are poignant metaphors to depict the conflicting emotions.
