PUPPETRY WORKSHOP – Day 2 by Frédéric Simon, France

Criteria for participation: 16 or above 16 years old (English Speaking)

Experience: no expertise necessary, an ease in front of the public is enough, musicians, actors, visual artists all arts are welcome even non-professional but manual, artisanal or artistic practice makes things easier

Materials needed (would be great if you could bring): papers, fabric falls, raw wood, seeds, string (links), scotch, glue, daily used or reformed articles, dry waste

Puppet making:
Starting from raw elements gleaned from nature or found in the street, objects rejected, abandoned, take a new life through simple assemblages, compositions of heterogeneous objects, these funny chimeras or hybrids that populate our daily life with great discretion suddenly become the heroes of our fables through the magic of manipulation.

Stories:
Canvas or narrative structures will be proposed by the trainees (traditional or urban legends, various facts, personal stories, childhood memories…

Final show to the public at the end of the two days:
Short forms based on a simple style figure, a simplified situation lasting from 10 to 15 minutes maximum
Mute, musical or spoken (any language).
Solo, duet, trio… according to the composition of the groups during the workshop
Final chorus on Nepalese dance music!
Proposed titles for the final representation: marioslam, or Pup slam or ImproPup (tbc)

About Facilitator
Originally from the small town of Luxeuil-les Bains which is located at the foot of the Vosges mountains, Frédéric SIMON studied Economics at the University of Strasbourg whilst pursuing a career in acting. After finishing his studies, he joined the Théâtre du Nain Jaune as an Actor cum Director and eventually as a Set Designer, Puppeteer, and Transmedia Author. From 2000 onwards, he has managed several theaters along with National and European organizations in the East of France (close to the German border - including Forbach, Strasbourg etc.) with a varied programming incorporating European and International artists in theater, dance, music, circus, puppetry, and theater for young adults. He is currently the Director of Alliance Française de Bombay.
