Belbari International Theatre Festival is a celebration of creativity, culture, and community. With the support of Srijanaghar, a home for creativity and Nepal International Theatre Festival , Belbari Pragya Prathistan, a municipal organ for art and literature, has taken the initiative to host this festival.
Theatre in Belbari has thrived for years, inspiring generations with unique styles and storytelling. Though these practices have declined, passionate young theatre activists are working to revive them by organizing theatre performances, events, tours and collaborating with national troupes. This festival is a collective effort, not just for Belbari but for the entire eastern region of Nepal. Theatre artists and groups from different eastern cities have joined hands to make this event possible. It will be a platform for local and national theatre artists to come together, share their stories, and reignite the love for theatre in the region. Beyond theatre, the festival also aims to promote Belbari’s tourism and cultural heritage. With its diverse ethnic communities, Belbari holds a treasure of traditions and wisdom. This festival is more than a celebration, it is a revival, a movement, and a promise to keep the spirit of theatre alive for generations to come.
Join us in making history!
Director's Note:
I grew up hearing stories of how theatre once thrived in Belbari—how people gathered, performed, and found joy in storytelling. Theatre was not just entertainment; it was a space for dialogue, curiosity, and change. Over time, these vibrant performances faded, but the passion never disappeared. Today, as we organize the first-ever Belbari International Theatre Festival, we are not just bringing theatre back; we are reigniting a tradition. This festival is a collective dream. It is for the artists who kept creating despite challenges, for the young theatre activists who worked tirelessly to keep performances alive, and for the communities that believe in the power of storytelling. It is not just Belbari’s festival—it belongs to the entire eastern region of Nepal. We welcome theatre lovers, performers, and cultural enthusiasts to be part of this journey. With the support of local theatre groups and national troupes, we hope to create a festival that inspires and unites us all. Let’s celebrate the art that connects us, the stories that move us, and the culture that defines us. Belbari is ready. The stage is set. Let’s make history together.
