Khmer Community Development, a Phnom-Penh based NGO in Cambodia, is bringing a presentation on Forum Theatre for personal and group empowerment in communities in Cambodia. The goal of Forum Theatre is to encourage social change through promoting empathy between different social groups. In Cambodia, this approach has been used by KCD to empower communities, including minority groups and youth; teach them to express themselves and address their personal challenges, build understandings for each other.

Sagar Prasai, Founder of Diverse Patterns, strategic partner of NITFest 2022, will lead a workshop with Ms. Michelle Rolfe, an expert from the UK (Birds of Paradise, a theatre group based in Scotland) on providing hands-on and practical information to participants so that they can include persons with disabilities as their audiences or artist & crew.
The workshop will be 2 hours long, and the participants will be primarily theatre directors, arts managers, and organizers of another similar festival. We'll discuss everything from stage design and acoustics to sign language interpretation and assistive listening devices. All are welcome, so come and learn how to make your theatre arts more accessible for all!

Mr. Sagar Prasai has more than a decade long experience in disability inclusion sector. He has worked with national and international organizations to make thier programming accessible to larger audiences including persons with disabilities.
Ms. Michelle Rolfe is a producer for Birds of Paradise (BOP) where she works with the executive Producer and artistic director on delivering BOP Theatre productions. She ensures the smooth running of day to day activities and communications for all of BOP productions and also support the development and strategic strands of BOP through project work and delivering training.
The director/performer/educator born and raised in Minnesota who has spent many years in Nepal teaching Nepali high school students and directing and performing with One World Theatre, Rose Schwietz is here introducing the participants to the complimentary practices of Suzuki and Viewpoints. Suzuki training develops an actor connection to Earth while balancing with lightness and control in the upper body, making actors who are versatile and expressive. With the six “Basics”, actors become stronger movers and speakers by understanding the relationship between voice, body, and the center. Viewpoint compliments this by teaching actors to connect with one another while accessing the creative potential of space and time. By exploring the “Nine’ aspects of performance while learning a shared vocabulary for ensemble-building.
Participants are requested to bring materials such as socks/tabi and with close-fitting pants or shorts so knees are visible.

This initiatory journey will be composed of several dynamics inspired in the training of the sacred clowns of native American cultures, designed in the form of vision quests to gather information from our own experience with the help of very talented and trained Betina Dominguez and actor, clown, researcher as well a director Andres Fagiolino. Beginning with breathing towards the base along with the awakening the physical, emotional and mental bodies. This session states a great focus on playful awaken of our mischief, presence, state of urgency, creativity and to become friends of the mistake. Finally, through dynamics of maximum sensitivity each participant will approach a genuine state of openness and vulnerability from were to embrace the totality of our being, allowing ourselves to make public our shame.

The participants will learn to see the cardboards in a three-dimensional way. Special attention will be focused on recycling and recovery. Giving a second life to other materials to open our eyes to conceive distinct and different as something useful for creation. This workshop is aimed at theatre practitioners, young artists and interested teenagers who want to approach the world of masks and theatre.
Participants are invited to bring curious papers, different types, qualities and textures in order to be able to collaborate in a new creative use.

Pallavi MD (singer, composer, actor, editor, sound designer and filmmaker), Bindhumalini Narayanaswamy (singer and composer) and Nikhil Nagaraj (sound designer, engineer, and musician) will come together to enlighten the participants throughout the workshop session on how to work with Music and Text to create an operatic scene. The workshop will give the participants an idea about music in a scene and how to be able to keep the essence of the scene intact using song and script.
